Princess Elizabeth Primary School began as Bukit Panjang Afternoon School in 1952, sharing premises with Panjang Malay School and later Chua Chu Kang Malay School. In 1954, it relocated to Princess Elizabeth Estate on Hillview Avenue and was renamed Princess Elizabeth Estate School.

In 1986, the school adopted its current name, Princess Elizabeth Primary School, and moved to its present location at Bukit Batok West Avenue 3. The school marked its 35th anniversary in 1989, its 40th in 1994, and its 60th in 2012. In 2015, it transitioned to a single-session school.

Phase 1 allows parents with a child studying in a primary school to register their younger child in the same school and secure an immediate placement.

Phase 2A is for those with alumni, staff, advisory or management committee association with the school, as well as for children from MOE Kindergarten located within the school.

The merging of Phases 2A(1) and 2A(2) in 2022 eliminated the priority enjoyed by children with parents in the alumni association.

Phase 2B is for parents who volunteer or hold community leadership positions, and for those with links to a church or clan associated with the school. This phase reserves 20 places in each school and allocates one-third of the remaining vacancies from the previous phase.

Phase 2C is for parents with no affiliatin to the school, and admission is based on proximity and nationality. To increase accessibility and inclusivity, MOE has increased the minimum number of places for Phase 2C to 40, and two-thirds of the remaining vacancies will be allocated to this phase. Parents who have not registered under Phase 2C can do so under Phase 2C Supplementary.
